This blog reflects how a civic issue like education can create a physical divide, limiting access for certain communities. By highlighting topics like these, I plan to show how minority groups can easily be overlooked and ways in which we can address similar problems. Having an in-depth knowledge of New York City has allowed me to provide a personal perspective and encourage change.
City Council Reform
Advocacy goes beyond highlighting an issue and comes from executing an initiative. I directly addressed the New York City council in hopes of rectifying a form of inequity. Issues like fair public transit are ignored in environments like Penn State, but by bringing awareness to an issue my hometown faces, I have also encouraged my peers to do the same.
